Concert Promotions – The Big Dream

Posted by Music Concerts | Posted in Music Concerts | Posted on 31-03-2009

Concert promotion is an integral part of the music business. Concert  promoters are the people that get the musicians scheduled to perform at a Club. Concert promotion is not to be taken lightly or entered into without sufficient backing in terms of finances and experience. Some people dream all their lives about putting on a wonderful event featuring top talent. Concert promotion is a demanding career that requires serious attention to detail. In order to be an effective and successful concert  promoter, a high level of organization is vital.
Concert promotions are typically a 5  percent net margin business. Not exactly a sexy bottom line. Concert promotion is a risky and low-margin business. In Q2 07 — traditionally, the spring and summer are the strongest for the concert business — Live Nation squeaked out operating income of $36 million on sales of $1 billion. Concert promotion is a  surprisingly ugly business. Everyone seems to jump on the  promoter for everything.
The last people who catch the heat are the performers, although many times the problems surfacing at a scheduled concert can be laid at their feet. But the bottom line is there would be no concert without the performers. So what’s the occasion that the performers are going to be held responsible. Now while it has been n’t a concert per se, the show during the infamous super bowl half time show by Janet Jackson when there has been the costume problem, the crap that flew because of that has been laid at the feet of the musician s. I individual ly think it did little but improve Miss Jackson’s appeal and give her career a little kick in the pants.
Whichever way you look at it, budding young concert  promoter hopefuls are going to have a tough time breaking into the ample time. But there is plenty of occasion for a young aggressive business type to work on a regional level and hone his or her skill. It’s a fact that people love music. And music of all types. As proof of that I offer up the fact that in our regional area, every year there is a ample Accordion festival. Yes I said, Accordion. And it draws scores of fans. And I’m not talking about 40 fans sitting on a couple of benches. people come from all over the country to perform at the concert. And on top of that, music buffs from all over the country travel here to attend the festival. Go figure. Next time you see someone eating a bratwurst……who knows, they can be a ample accordion fan.
Concert Promotions is a fascinating business and has a outwardly magical lure to many people, but it is a  surprisingly tough road to travel. There are many other jobs or careers that offer better occasions of success, but the cachet connected with the music business is just too strong for many to resist.

Gigs – Concert For George

Posted by Music Concerts | Posted in Concert Tickets | Posted on 30-03-2009

In this article we’re going to briefly review one of the most touching concert that has been ever held for another individual, The Concert For George.
There are  surprisingly few people in history who you could mention their 1st name, say the word concert and know exactly who that concert has been for. The Concert For George has been one of those concert s. George of course being the late George Harrison of the Beatles.
George Harrison died of brain cancer on November 29, 2001. One year later the memorial concert for this wonderful musician has been held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It’s only fitting that this has been the place as Harrison has been 100  percent English from the top of his head to the suggestions of his magical guitar fingers. many feel he has been the overlooked Beatle. Everything has been about John and Paul. But most critics feel that George Harrison has been the heart and soul of the Beatle’s guitar sound which has since be copied by so many musician s.
The idea for the concert has been George’s nice friend Eric Clapton’s. Clapton and Harrison had actually been companions for a long time and 1st played together on the White Album. The song, of course, has been “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Clapton put together a memorial that Harrison himself would have smiled at.
The concert began with the daughter of one of Harrison’s wonderful companions, Ravi Shankar, singing “Your Eyes.” After this song the daughter, who’s name is Anoushka, teamed with another one of Harrison’s companions, Jeff Lynne of ELO fame, to sing “The Inner Light” which has been one of George Harrison’s own tunes.
The concert itself has been a mixture of music and comedy, which is  surprisingly unusual for a concert. The comedy has been handled mostly by the ensemble of Monty Python who, along with Tom Hanks, performed “Sit On My Face” and “The Lumberjack Song” which has been one of Monty Python’s funniest and most famous tunes.
The rest of the concert featured more of George’s companions and the remaining members of the Beatles, Paul and Ringo. also there were Tom Petty, Billy Preston, and Gary Brooker from Procal Harem. George’s son Dhani has been also on hand. If you watch the video of the concert you would swear that Dhani has been George Harrison if you didn’t know better.
The remainder of the concert featured mostly songs that were either done by The Beatles or songs that George had done solo or with other performers such as when he has been with Tom Petty during his stint with The Traveling Willburys.
The songs are a who’s who of some of the most important tunes these people ever did together or separately. They included such classics as George’s signature song “Something,” the Beatles’ prefer “Isn’t It A Pity,” “Here Comes The Sun,” a Ringo tune that George played on, “Photograph,” “All Things Must Pass,” “My Sweet Lord,” and finishing with “I’ll See You In My Dreams,” which has been an appropriate ending for the concert.

Hearing Neil Again
I heard about the Neil Diamond concert coming to Charlotte on December 12. I became excited and tried to buy tickets. After a few hours on the Internet, I realized this has been going to be a treat reserved for those who could afford to pay the scavenger’s exorbitant prices for the tickets. Not that Neil is not worth it, I just can’t afford it. Therefore, my moodiness tonight. I want to hear Neil in individual one last time, and can’t.
Loving Neil has been a lifetime joy of mine. He captured my heart in the 60’s with “Cherry, Cherry” and later with “Song Sung Blue” and “Stones”, and many others. I saw him in concert in Charlotte in 1977. After the concert, I drove behind the coliseum, saw a bus, thought it has been his and chased it all over Charlotte at high rates of speed until I lost track and has been forced to go home. I honestly thought I would follow this bus to it is destination upon which Neil would depart and walk into my arms to stay forever. I has been 29 years old then.
I’m 61 now, and still have that fantasy…someday I will take Neil into my arms and convey my absolute appreciation of his talent and sensitivity. His songs guided me through years of self-discovery, new motherhood, loss of love, and finally rediscovering myself. No matter what my mood, Neil’s music could take me there. I nursed my babies in the wee hours of the morning to the sound of Neil, I loved my husband in the wee hours with the echoes of Neil’s music in my head, I endured my boring jobs with the beat of Neil’s music in my limbs yearning to dance, to express, to feel his words with motion. Neil always had a song that would relate to whatever has been going on with my life. I need to let him know it. I need to go to this concert. It will could be by last occasion.
The concert is a ample deal to me. It’s could a ample deal to Neil. We’re both getting older, both needing to justify our years, both needing to be appreciated, both needing to feel that we’ll be recall ed. He will be recall ed for his talent, but will I be recall ed as the the dedicated, lifelong fan?

How To Promote A Concert The Creative Way

Posted by Music Concerts | Posted in Music Concerts | Posted on 22-03-2009

Do not know how to  encourage  a concert? Well that’s could not unusual because there really is not one method you could use for each concert or event. Concert  promoters make a fortune doing this for a living so certainly you can’t expect my humble little price of the Internet to be able to tell all, but I could offer some suggestions and ideas.
I used to  encourage  seminars, not really concert but when I advocate ed a companions band get some publicity and promotion it seemed to work. I got some new suggestions from a book and they seemed to advocate to.
First – think about who your target fans is. What other concert / concert / get togethers would they go to?  we  gave out flyers at other concert in the area where other bands in the same musical style played. Hence our target fans has been there and an easy target. One of the bands even announced our concert for us at the end of the  set.
Second – flyers. Okay, I ought to have made this the 1st point – I has been just testing you!. Try to put them up / hand them out where your target fans will see them (take a hint from the 1st tip) and make sure you don’t just litter the place and aren’t posting them anywhere illegal. Make sure they will stand out, so colour is nice, but expensive. You’ll be able to get many more leaflets / flyers out there if you buy black and white. It can be an idea to go to the regional college and see if you could get a graphic design student to design a leaflet for you in ex differ for free tickets.
Thirdly – get on the web. MySpace has a wonderful music section, and it can’t hurt to  encourage  your concert here. could be link to a Youtube video of your band playing, or put clips from your last show if you’ve a video of the event.
Fourthly – most regional papers have a what’s on  lead or get togethers page. Make sure you’ve a listing here which is ofttimes free. Is your concert newsworthy in any way? Try contacting the paper to see Assuming that the y will do a write up. Are you playing for a charity or worthy event? Are there any unusual circumstances around the gig? On a slow news day the paper could just get your photo in the paper and give a small write up. Try getting a free mention on the radio as well.
Fifth – Alice Copper has been played in London. To  encourage  the show he had a ample truck drive around with an advertising board on the back. The truck “happened” to break down right in the middle of London, and caused traffic jams that made the news. people in the United Kingdom saw a ample picture of Alice Cooper right on there television screen, and soon everybody knew Alice has been playing a concert in the United Kingdom. Now, I don’t suggest you do this, but be creative. What about putting stickers promoting your event on coins, pasting flyers to your vehicle and leaving it parked in a busy car park where lots of people will see it. Try putting stickers on any mail you send out – you’d could be surprised how many pairs of hands that mail goes through!
I think that’s enough for know to wet your appetite. As a  last thought, think about your budget. It’s  surprisingly easy to spend many resources promoting a concert if you don’t know how. I’ve learned from some of my mistakes which is why I bought the book – I try to learn from other people ’s mistakes these days.
